The following were taken from the umbrella Facebook event for New Jersey actions. There are a lot of Facebook events for all the different actions on March 4th, but it would be great if people could RSVP and then send invitations to all your friends, coworkers, and classmates.

Comments:
While there is heightened focus on education on March 4th around the whole country, that date is a kick off date for a broadly based student, faculty and staff movement to defend funding and support for public education and higher education, to make higher education affordable and better yet, free to working families across the whole country.

The priorities in this nation favor bailing out the financial industry (which is responsible for the sad state of the economy) and funding endless wars. To make that happen, cuts to public education and higher education funding at every level, slashing of other services and many other draconian measures will be coming across now and in the months and years to come. Access to higher education and decent public education for all as well as many of the other programs being cut were implemented after years of struggle by advocates, activists, freedom fighters and those who dedicate their lives to struggle for a better nation and world. Now we need to say . . . we will not go back, we will not give up what we have earned through struggle – we will move forward to make systems including schools more equitable and accessible to all working families. That is how we must roll in this 21st century if we are going to survive and thrive.

1. twit-tips - March 2, 2010

for the folks on twitter, i would suggest using hash-tags to get the message out about what’s happening on the ground in nyc. there’s already a fair number of california hash-tags (such as #occupyca)

#march4 is national and gaining momentum, although it’s still mostly focused on california
#ism is for ‘international student movement’

we could use #occupyny (to mirror the cali format)

I think #occupyny is a great one. I have been using #nycedu but would happily switch or combine. I will definitely start following and posting to #occupyny.
